Standard 52-card deck, typically for 2 players. Deal 10 cards each. Place the deck face-down. Turn the top card face-up to start the discard pile. Non-dealer may take the face-up card or pass to the dealer.

Scoring: Knocker scores the difference in deadwood (or opponent scores if undercut). Gin bonus: +25 points. Undercut bonus: +25 points. First to 100 points wins.

On your turn, draw either the top card of the stock or the face-up discard. Then discard one card face-up to the discard pile. Form melds: sets (3-4 cards of same rank) or runs (3+ consecutive cards of same suit).

Keep your deadwood low - high cards are risky if your opponent knocks. Watch what your opponent discards to guess their melds. Don't discard cards your opponent recently picked up from the discard pile.
