Capture all opponent's pieces or block them so they cannot move.
Each player starts with 20 pieces on the dark squares of their first four rows (40 total pieces on the 10x10 board). White usually moves first.
Win by capturing all opponent's pieces or by blocking all their pieces so they cannot move. Draws occur when neither side can win.
Men move diagonally forward one square to an empty dark square. Men capture by jumping diagonally over adjacent opponent pieces (forward or backward). Captures are mandatory - you must capture if able.
Flying kings are extremely powerful - getting kings early provides a significant advantage. The maximum capture rule means planning several moves ahead is essential. Control the center diagonals for mobility and tactical options.
Russian Draughts: Men can capture backward but cannot move backward. Kings fly. Brazilian Draughts: Same rules on an 8x8 board. Pool Checkers: 8x8 board with flying kings, popular in the United States.
