Översikt
Canasta is a partnership melding game using two standard decks plus jokers (108 cards). Players collect sets of seven cards ('canastas') while strategically managing wild cards and the discard pile. It was a major fad in the 1950s and remains popular.
Uppställning
Use two standard decks plus four jokers (108 cards). 4 players in partnerships. Deal 11 cards each. Place the deck face-down and turn one card up to start the discard pile.
Hur man spelar
- Draw: Take two cards from the stock, or take the entire discard pile if you can immediately meld its top card.
- Meld: Lay down sets of 3+ cards of the same rank. Wild cards (2s and jokers) can substitute but can't exceed the natural cards in a meld.
- To take the discard pile, you must have two natural cards of the top card's rank in your hand (or it's locked/frozen with special conditions).
- A canasta is a meld of 7+ cards. A 'natural' canasta (no wilds) scores 500; a 'mixed' canasta scores 300.
- You must have at least one canasta to 'go out' (empty your hand).
- Going out scores a bonus and ends the hand.
- Initial meld requirement: First meld of the hand must reach point thresholds based on your team's current score.
