Learn Farkle: Guide

2–6 players · 15–30 min · Easy to learn

Overview

Farkle (also known as 10000, Zilch, or Hot Dice) is a push-your-luck dice game using six dice. Players roll for points and must decide whether to bank their score or risk it all for more. One bad roll can cost everything you've accumulated that turn.

Strategy

  • Your chance of Farkle increases as fewer dice remain - stop with 1-2 dice unless desperate.

  • Set aside high-scoring dice but consider leaving more dice for bigger combinations.

  • Three-of-a-kinds are valuable

Weigh the risk of breaking them up.

  • In the early game, play conservatively to get on the board (first 500).

  • Late game with a lead

Bank often. Behind: take more risks.

  • Memorize the Farkle probability

With 3 dice, you Farkle about 28% of the time.

Variations

  • Some rules require exactly 500 to start, others any score.

  • Bonus combinations

Straight (1-6) for 1500, three pairs for 1500, etc.

  • 10,000 opening

Must get 10,000 or more in one turn to win (final round variant).
