Learn Farkle: Tutorial

Not all dice score points. The basic scoring dice are:

- 1 = 100 points each

- 5 = 50 points each

- Three of a kind: 1s = 1,000 / 2s = 200 / 3s = 300 / 4s = 400 / 5s = 500 / 6s = 600

After rolling, you must keep at least one scoring die before you can roll again or bank.

Here the player rolled and got 1, 3, 4, 5, 2, 6. The 1 (100 pts) and the 5 (50 pts) are the scoring dice.

After rolling, select scoring dice to keep. Kept dice are set aside and their points are added to your turn score.

Here the player kept a 1 (100 pts) and a 5 (50 pts), accumulating 150 points this turn so far. They now have 4 dice remaining to roll.

You can choose to bank your 150 points or roll again with the 4 remaining dice, hoping for more scoring combinations.

Rolling three of a kind scores big:

- Three 1s = 1,000 points

- Three 2s = 200, Three 3s = 300, and so on up to Three 6s = 600

Four of a kind is worth double the triple, five of a kind is quadruple, and six of a kind is eight times the triple value!

Here the player rolled three 4s (400 pts) plus a 1 (100 pts). That is 500 points available to keep.

If you roll and none of the dice score, that is a Farkle! You lose all points accumulated during this turn and your turn ends immediately.

Here the player got greedy and rolled the remaining 4 dice. The result was 2, 3, 4, 6 -- no 1s, no 5s, no three-of-a-kind. That is a Farkle! The 150 points they had built up are gone.

Knowing when to bank is the key to winning Farkle.

If you manage to keep all 6 dice as scoring dice, you get Hot Dice -- all 6 dice are freed up and you roll all 6 again, keeping your accumulated turn score!

This is rare but very rewarding. For example, if you rolled a straight (1-2-3-4-5-6) worth 1,500 points, all 6 dice score and you get to roll again with 1,500 points already banked for the turn.

Here the player has kept all 6 dice for 1,500 points and gets to roll all 6 again.

To get on the scoreboard, your first bank must be at least 500 points in a single turn. Until you reach that threshold, you cannot bank.

Once you have entered the game, you can bank any amount on subsequent turns.

Here Player 1 has already entered with 1,200 banked points. Player 2 has not yet entered and needs to accumulate at least 500 points in one turn before banking. The current turn shows 550 points -- enough to enter!

When a player banks enough to reach 10,000 points, the end game is triggered. Every other player gets one final turn to try to surpass the leader.

After the final round, the player with the highest score wins!

Key strategies:

- Bank early to build a safe lead.

- Push your luck when trailing -- you need big turns to catch up.

- Watch your opponent's score -- if they are close to 10,000, you may need to gamble.

Here Player 1 wins with 10,350 points to Player 2's 8,900.
