Be the first to discard all your cards to become President. Avoid being last (the Scum).
Überblick
President (known by many names including Asshole, Scum, Capitalism) is a climbing card game for 3-8 players. Players try to empty their hands by playing equal or higher cards than the previous play. The first out becomes President, the last becomes the lowest rank.
Aufbau
Use a standard 52-card deck. Deal all cards as evenly as possible. Card ranking (high to low): 2, A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3. The player with the 3 of clubs starts.
Spielablauf
- The starting player plays a card or set of matching cards (e.g., three 7s).
- Play proceeds clockwise. Each player must play the same number of cards of equal or higher rank, or pass.
- When all players pass in succession (or a 2 clears), the last player to play starts a new round with any card(s).
- 2s are typically the highest rank and clear the pile.
- Continue until one player empties their hand (becoming President), then second place, etc.
- The last player with cards becomes the Scum.
- In subsequent rounds, Scum gives their best cards to President, who gives back their worst.
Spielende
Finish first to become President (highest rank). Social hierarchy continues: Vice President, common players, Vice Scum, Scum. Rankings carry privileges/penalties in subsequent rounds.
Strategie-Tipps
Save your 2s - they clear the pile and give you control.
Play pairs and triples when possible - harder for opponents to beat.
Pass strategically to let others fight while you conserve high cards.
As Scum, play low cards quickly to gain momentum before giving up your best cards.
Watch the card count - forcing opponents to pass when they have few cards is powerful.
Pairs/triples of low cards are surprisingly valuable - others may not be able to beat them.
