Aperçu
Euchre is a fast-paced partnership trick-taking game popular in the Midwest US, Canada, and the UK. Using only 24-32 cards, the game features a changing trump suit each hand and unique 'bower' cards (the jacks) that become the highest trumps.
Mise en place
Use a 24-card deck (9s through Aces) or 32-card (7s through Aces). 4 players in partnerships. Deal 5 cards each. Turn up one card to propose trump.
Comment jouer
- The turned-up card proposes trump. Starting left of dealer, players may 'order up' (accept trump) or pass.
- If ordered up, dealer takes the upcard and discards one. That suit is trump.
- If all pass, the upcard is turned down. Players may name a different suit as trump, or pass again.
- The Right Bower (jack of trump) is the highest trump. The Left Bower (jack of same color) is second highest.
- Normal trump ranking after bowers: A, K, Q, 10, 9.
- Play: Maker's team must win 3+ tricks. Defenders try to 'euchre' them (limit them to 0-2 tricks).
- Going Alone: The maker can play without their partner for bonus points.
